Career Profile | General Manager
I joined Business Post in March 2002 as Hub Manager (designate). Prior to joining Business Post, I spent 17 years with my previous employer working my way from warehouse operative, C&D driver, night trunk driver, supervisor, traffic manager, operations manager, site manager, and finally to national hub manager. My initial responsibilities included working on a variety of operational challenges with the south east region. Following this, I progressed to working on national network challenges such as site moves, franchise changes and under performing sites. In mid 2003, I was made hub manager of both the Leicester and Cambridge depots, running the two sites in tandem. I later participated in “project nimrod”, a scheme that was designed to help the business identify general managers from both within the company and externally through a number of assessment days and assignments. Following my successful progression through the programme in 2005, I was made general manager for network development providing the business with a full-time project management capability .In late 2006, I was offered the role of workstream manager for the change programme leading the “operating disciplines” workstream. Throughout my time at Business Post I have always been able to call upon my designated mentor, who throughout my career with the company has helped me overcome many challenges with practical advice. In addition, the company have been able to tailor training to my precise needs to support my personal development. The real benefit of working for such a fast moving diverse organisation like Business Post is the opportunity for progression no matter what career path you may want to take .If you have the drive and ambition there are opportunities throughout the group with considerable support from the company to help you achieve you long-term goals.
