About us

Caring for our community

Introduction:

Central to UK Mail’s philosophy is to place society’s needs at the heart of its commercial strategy. For us, this entails choosing a charity as a focus for our fundraising as well as supporting a wide range of educational and recreational initiatives our staff are involved in within their own communities. We actively encourage our employees to engage in fundraising activities which encapsulate the values of our CSR vision.

UK Mail & Cancer Research UK:

Cancer Research UK is the chosen charity partner for UK Mail, its employees and its franchisees and we are extremely proud of this partnership. With cancer impacting the lives of so many including a number of our employees this is a cause that our staff feel particularly passionately about. Cheeringly, survival rates have doubled in the last 30 years and Cancer Research UK is at the heart of that progress. This also was a critical factor for us when choosing our charity partner and we enjoy doing our bit to help Cancer Research UK continue its life-saving work.

UK Mail is committed to raising money in support of Cancer Research UK. We donate one penny for every consignment carried by customers who pay their accounts by direct debit. A number of company wide schemes are also in place which have been successfully running or a number of years, such as Payroll Lottery.  These initiatives, along with local staff fundraising has raised £90,541.96 from April, 2007 to March, 2008. .

Fundraising campaigns for staff are implemented across the business on an ongoing basis. In the last twelve months these have included raffles, sponsored walks, the Race for Life, cycle rides, dives, dress-down days and stock donation drives for the charity’s high street stores. As well as raising money for a worthwhile cause we have also found that these initiatives contribute to a sense of staff solidarity and morale. Everyone in the company enjoys rallying together for these fundraising events - proud in the knowledge that everything they are doing is ultimately helping to beat cancer.

UK Mail has also introduced Payroll Giving to encourage employees to donate to our chosen charity on a monthly basis or a charity of the individual’s choice. Giving directly from their monthly salaries is a simple, tax-free way for employees to support a cause that is close to their hearts.

Supporting local communities:

UK Mail believes in using its position as a force for good in local communities and provides sponsorship to staff as individuals, teams and events they are involved in to help local communities. As a young, dynamic company we are particularly keen to invest in support for young people and create opportunities for them. We are committed to:
  • Promoting healthy and active lifestyles through supporting staff sporting initiatives e.g. Great Northern Run, the London Marathon, climbing Mount Kilimanjaro
  • Supporting sporting talent amongst our staff by providing funding at grass roots level for football, rugby and a range of other sports

As well as providing funding for sport and recreation at a local level we work in partnership with job centres around the UK to help get unemployed people back to work. We also have links with local schools to promote our work experience placements.

UK Mail is committed to considering the impact of its operation on neighbourhoods. Our overnight deliveries reduce congestion on local roads during the day and our vehicles have road friendly suspension, resulting in reduced noise and reduced impact on our neighbours.
